On Tuesday, Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont) explained that Navy Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson was nicknamed “the candy man.” This was because Jackson would hand out drugs very easily.

Tester, who serves as the top Democrat on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, said that “in overseas trips, in particular, the admiral would go down the aisle way of the airplane and say, ‘All right, who wants to go to sleep?’ and hand out the prescription drugs like they were candy.”

Tester explained that the Senate panel listened to over 20 witnesses that came forth about Jackson’s loose drug dispensing policies.

“That’s the reports that we got from the people, 20-something people, who got a hold of us and said, ‘We have a problem. This doctor has a problem because he hands out prescriptions like candy.’ In fact, in the White House they call him the candy man,” said Tester.

This isn’t the only scandal that Jackson must overcome in his hope of becoming the Secretary of Veteran’s Affairs. It was also reported that he has a problem with drinking alcohol while on the job.

During one official trip, White House staff found Jackson passed out drunk when they needed him.

Despite Trump saying he would understand if his pick drops out of the nomination process, Jackson decided to continue on with the effort. The White House says they will continue to support him.
