On Tuesday, Trump announced that he congratulated Putin on his recent election ‘win’. GOP Senator John McCain wasn’t having it.
In a statement, McCain wrote that Trump’s call to Putin was insulting to “every Russian citizen who was denied the right to vote in a free and fair election to determine their country’s future.”
“And by doing so with Vladimir Putin, President Trump insulted every Russian citizen who was denied the right to vote in a free and fair election to determine their country’s future, including the countless Russian patriots who have risked so much to protest and resist Putin’s regime.”
During the phone call with the Russian President, Trump told Putin that the two would meet again soon.

“We had a very good call,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “We will probably be meeting in the not-too-distant future to discuss the arms race, which is getting out of control.”
This phone call comes just days after international outrage with Russia for apparently poisoning an ex-Russian spy in the U.K.
