Early Wednesday, House Speaker Paul Ryan announced that he will not be seeking reelection this November. This is considered a big blow to the Republican Party.

Ryan told reporters that his decision is based on wanting to spend more time with his family.

“You all know that I did not seek this job,” Ryan said. “I took it reluctantly.

“But I have given this job everything. I have no regrets whatsoever for having accepted this responsibility.”

He went on: “But the truth is it’s easy for it to take over everything in your life and you can’t just let that happen.” He also mentioned that he didn’t want to be “only a weekend dad.”

With Ryan leaving, that brings the grand total to nearly 30 House GOP lawmakers that will be vacating their seats this fall. The Dems only need to take 23 seats to flip control of the chamber.

Following the announcement by Ryan, President Trump responded by complimenting Ryan’s legacy. He also mentioned that “we are with you Paul.”

The Twittersphere was apparently not happy with Trump’s sentiments and quickly destroyed him in the responses.
