According to a Republican strategist who also served as Senator Ted Cruz’s top aide for his presidential bid, Republicans could turn on Trump and help impeach him if their party gets “wiped out” in the 2018 midterms.

During his interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Rick Tyler stated, “When does the Republican Party turn? When they get wiped out. That’s what happens. If they get wiped out in [2018], the Republicans will absolutely turn on Donald Trump.”

He continued, “And I think to the point where they will impeach him and they will get 67 percent of the vote in the Senate to impeach him, to do that. But it will require a wipeout.”

For months, Democratic lawmakers have called for the impeachment of Trump.

Last month, there was even a proposed House measure to impeach him but was rejected.

Currently, the GOP has a firm hold on both chambers of Congress.

However, for the midterms, one-third of Senate seats and all of the House seats will be challenged.

There is a total of 28 Republicans who will be leaving Congress. This gives Democrats a strong opportunity to grab those seats as well.

In order for Democrats to take back the House, they would need to flip 24 seats in the midterm. At this point, it seems very likely that they will do so.
