During an interview with CNN, actor Tom Hanks blasted Trump for his phone call to the widow of the fallen soldier.

Hanks stated, “I’m only knowing what I read in the newspapers and what have you, and it just seems like it’s one of the biggest cock-ups on the planet Earth, if you ask me.” He continued, “This is a tragedy of the utmost consequence and it goes much longer beyond who’s going to come out on top of the news story. I think it’s very sad.”

This weekend, Hanks received the National Archives Foundation with the “Records of Achievement Award.” This award is considered to be the “highest honor given by the National Archives Foundation to an individual whose work has fostered a broader national awareness of the history and identity of the United States through the use of original National Archives records.”

Also during his interview, he urged people who are worried about the current state of America to look to history.

He stated, “People are upset about what’s going on today. They’re furious, they’re frustrated, they’re worked up. If you’re concerned about what’s going on today, read history and figure out what to do because it’s all right there.”

He added, “As we continually move towards a more perfect union, that magnificent document (the US Constitution) out there, that might be the only self-correcting, open-ended document anywhere on the planet Earth (that) keeps us going, that keeps saying that we’re going to learn how to do that one thing we’ve already sort of done, we’re going to become better and better and better.”

Trump has faced criticism on how he handled the call with the widow of Army Sgt. La David Johnson who was killed in the Niger ambush earlier this month.

Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) has called out Trump for his call to the widow, saying that he told the widow that her husband “knew what he signed up for … but when it happens it hurts anyway,” in which the family confirmed.

Trump continued his feud with Wilson on Saturday tweeting, calling her “wacky” and claimed she is “killing the Democrat Party.”

On Sunday, Trump went after Wilson again, tweeting:
