On Friday, there was yet another school shooting. This time it was at Sante Fe High School in Texas, where 17-year-old Dimitrios Pagourtzis opened fire and killed at least nine students and one teacher.
As expected Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) responded to the shooting with “thoughts and prayers.”
Cruz tweeted, “Heidi and I are keeping all the students and faculty at Santa Fe High School in our prayers this morning, along with all first responders on the scene. Please be safe and heed warnings from local officials.”

However, many people were not happy with Cruz’s response and took to Twitter to blast him for his response:
In February, I asked you to draft and pass legislation that would prevent incidents such as this. Looks like it fell upon deaf ears

He’s too busy collecting campaign contributions from the NRA.

F*ck your prayers & thoughts! Stop taking money from the NRA & protect our children! I’m a Texan & it’s literally one of your jobs! You are absolutely unbelievable. I can’t wait for you to no longer be a recurring embarrassment to my state.

YOU are the problem. YOUR PRAYERS are NOT the solution. https://t.co/HhHLOTBNCf

Save your prayers for your reelection chances, Ted Cruz. Texas needs action. Your policies have supported this toxic gun culture. It’s affected your constituents at Sante Fe High School and Sutherland Springs. https://t.co/nTxsqho1CD

Senator Ted Cruz (TX)- Congressional recipient of $77,450 NRA gun lobby money, A+ NRA rating.
He’s up for re-election in November.

I'm a gun owner, a military veteran, and a proud Texan, and there's a reason I'm supporting @BetoORourke over Ted Cruz in the fall. One supports common sense gun reform to protect our children while the other clearly has been paid enough by the @NRA to not give a damn.#SantaFe

Here's what Ted Cruz was doing exactly two weeks ago. pic.twitter.com/mYuBSeHI4n

Ted Cruz has been paid $77,450 by the NRA to send his thoughts and prayers after every school shooting, including one in his home state, but never take action. His words mean nothing. Absolutely nothing.
— Michael Skolnik (@MichaelSkolnik) May 18, 2018
“More gun control is not the answer” Ted Cruz. @tedcruz would you be saying this again if it was your child gunned down in at that school in Texas?
— donaldtrumpnewstoday (@irishrygirl) May 18, 2018
Senator Ted Lieu (D-CA) also ripped into Cruz for taking money from the NRA.
There is nothing wrong about praying for victims & first responders at the school shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas. We should pray for them.
But there is something very wrong if that is all you do.
— Ted Lieu (@tedlieu) May 18, 2018
A Twitter user even reminded us that Cruz used an AR-15 to cook bacon.
Take 1 min & share this video of Ted Cruz. He's using an AR-15 as a toy.
Cruz is immature, irresponsible & reckless. He doesn't respect the 2nd Amendment or guns
We need mature, stable leadership – not fools drunk on NRA money
