According to two sources close to the White House, chief strategist Steve Bannon is on thin ice.
From both inside and outside the White House, people are noticing that Bannon is slowly starting to get on Trump’s bad side.
One source is even saying that Bannon could be gone by the end of this week.
This weekend, White House officials seemed to have a hard time giving a straight answer when asked about Bannon’s loyalty to Trump and the White House agenda.
On Monday, during an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, National Security Adviser General H.R. McMaster, kept dodging the question about whether he would work with Bannon.
When McMaster was asked about the situation between him and Bannon, McMaster simply responded that “there’s just a lot of noise, from my perspective.”
“And I think everybody sees the president has assembled a tremendous national security team,” McMaster continued. “And it’s a great privilege for me to be able to support and enable people like Secretary of State Tillerson, Secretary of Defense Mattis, [CIA] Director Pompeo, Ambassador Haley at the United Nations. And despite this noise, we’re getting quite a bit done in terms of developing and advancing strategies to prioritize the safety and security of the American people and promote American prosperity.”
On Sunday, Anthony Scaramucci, former communications director, had an interview with ABC’s This Week. During the interview, Scaramucci was asked about Bannon’s loyalty and about the idea that Trump may fire Bannon- which he did not dispute. Scaramucci replied, “Well, I think the president knows what he’s going to do with Steve Bannon. Well, let’s leave it up to the president. It’s his decision. But I mean, at the end of the day, I think the president has a very good idea of who the leakers are inside the White House. The president has a very good idea of the people that are undermining his agenda that are serving their own interests.”
Also, there are reports that reveal Trump thinks that Bannon is the one who has been leaking information to the press. Bannon is reportedly having some problems with John Kelly who was recently appointed as Chief of Staff.
Multiple news media and political observers in Washington have made repeated predictions about Bannon’s departure. Many are suspecting that his departure would be sooner because of the violence of the Charlottesville rally and because of Trump’s response.
