Trump attacked South Korea on a recent Twitter rant claiming that their ‘talk of appeasement’ won’t work with North Korea, and that North Korea ‘only understands one thing.’
South Korea is finding, as I have told them, that their talk of appeasement with North Korea will not work, they only understand one thing!

However, according to an expert on South Korea, former State Department official David Straub, we shouldn’t expect South Korea to respond to Trump’s rants.
Straub, in an interview with the Washington Post, explained that Trump is widely hated throughout the country. Yet, since South Korea remains highly dependent on the United States for its security, their government isn’t in a position to respond to Trump’s angry Twitter rants.
“Opinion polls show South Koreans have one of the lowest rates of regard for Trump in the world and they don’t consider him to be a reasonable person,” Straub explained. “In fact, they worry he’s kind of nuts, but they still want the alliance.”
While not responding directly to Trump, the South Korean President Moon Jae-in said he would continue to advocate for peace over war.
“South Korea is a country that experienced a fratricidal war. The destruction of war should not be repeated in this land,” said a statement from Moon’s office. “We will not give up and will continue to push for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through peaceful means working together with our allies.”
