On Tuesday, Senator Bob Corker (R-Tenn) ripped his fellow GOP colleagues for being afraid to vote on his tariff amendment. When his amendment was prevented from being voted on, Corker took to the floor to deliver a heated speech.
Corker went on to mock his fellow colleagues for being afraid of upsetting Trump and not wanting to “poke the bear.”
He claimed that majority of them would have voted for the amendment if it came to the floor but they continued to block it.
Corker stated, “I can’t believe it! I would bet that 95% of the people on this (Republican) side of the aisle support intellectually this amendment — I would bet higher than 95 percent — and a lot of them would vote for it if it came to a vote.”

He continued, “But no, no, no! Gosh, ‘we might poke the bear’ is the language I’ve been hearing in the hallways …. ‘The president might get upset with us as United States senators if we vote on the Corker amendment, so we’re going to do everything we can to block it.’”
Corker’s speech comes as he tried but failed to get a vote on his legislation that would require congressional approval for tariffs.
This was in response to Trump’s recent decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum on U.S. allies.
