With increasing talk about Trump firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller, Senator Chuck Schumer is calling on Congress to protect him. This also comes just one day after the FBI raided the hotel and office of Trump’s personal attorney.

The Democratic leader implored Republicans in the Senate to help pass legislation that would protect the investigation. He says that the process must continue unimpeded or we could face a constitutional crisis.

“Let us take steps to protect the special counsel from political interference. We have several bipartisan bills designed to do just that. Majority Leader [Mitch] McConnell should bring them to the floor and let us debate them very soon,” said Schumer.

Early Tuesday, Trump blasted the Department of Justice for allowing the search and seizure.

“Attorney–client privilege is dead!” tweeted the President. “A TOTAL WITCH HUNT!!!”

During a White House meeting on Monday, Trump didn’t mention he wouldn’t be firing Mueller. Instead, he mentioned that many have suggested that he do so.

Trump asserted, “Many people have said, ‘You should fire him.’”

Also on Tuesday, in a press briefing, Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that Trump believes he has the power to fire Mueller.

“He certainly believes he has the power to do so,” Sanders told reporters.
