On Thursday, while speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Vice President Mike Pence seemed worried that Democrats would win congressional majorities.
During his speech, he went after House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
Pence stated, “It would be a disaster for our cause if Nancy Pelosi became speaker of the House again. But we’re not going to let it happen. This movement should know it’s a very real threat. … They’re doing everything they can to try to win back the Congress next November.”
He also criticized Pelosi for calling $1,000 bonuses after passing the tax bill “crumbs.”

He stated, “Any leader that says $1,000 in the pockets of working families is crumbs is out of touch with the American people.”
Pence warned that a “mobilized” Democratic Party is set on taking back Congress. He continued and told the members “It’s up to us to stop them.”
He then went on to insist that the last time Democrats controlled Congress “nearly ran America into the ground.”
Pence’s fear comes as Democrats have been winning in multiple state and national special elections.
According to recent polls, Democrats have a lead in polls that ask voters if they prefer a Republican or Democratic candidate. In particular, a FiveThirtyEight poll shows that Democrats have a 9 percentage point advantage in a generic ballot.
Currently, in order for Democrats to win back the House, they need to win 24 seats. Also, for Democrats to win the Senate, Democrats have to defend 26 of the 34 seats that will be vacated.
