On Monday, Roy Moore, the former Alabama Senate candidate, filed a lawsuit that claimed that he was a target of a political conspiracy.

Moore is specifically going after Debbie Wesson Gibson, Beverly Young Nelson, Leigh Corfman and Tina Johnson, the women who accused him of sexual assault. The complaint was filed jointly with his wife, Kayla, in Etowah County, Ala.

In a statement on his campaign Facebook page, Moore’s lawyer claims that the allegations against Moore “arose from a political conspiracy to destroy his personal reputation and defeat him in the special Senate election for United States Senate.”

It continued and stated that Moore “has filed this action not only to hold accountable those who are guilty of slanderous and libelous conduct, but also to restore his good name, character, and reputation with the people of Alabama.”

According to the complaint, the accusations against him “all coincidentally surfaced for the first time within a seven-day period, a mere 32 days before the December 12 general election.”

Moore is looking for compensatory damages. Moore is also asking for punitive damages “in an amount that will adequately reflect the enormity of the defendants’ wrongful, outrageous acts” and an amount that would prevent something similar.
