On Sunday, North Korea shut down Trump’s claim about how he deserves credit for peace between the two Koreas.
According to North Korea’s KCNA news agency, Washington is “misleading public opinion” by insisting denuclearization was because of sanctions and other pressures.
The news agency then went on to cite a foreign ministry spokesman. The spokesman said the U.S. should not “deliberately provoke” North Korea by trying to use strategic assets in South Korea and bringing up human rights issues.
The spokesman stated, “This act cannot be construed otherwise than a dangerous attempt to ruin the hardly-won atmosphere of dialogue and bring the situation back to square one.”

The news agency also added that it would not be smart for Washington to mistake North Korea’s “peace-loving intention” as a sign of weakness.
This kind of talk comes about a week after North Korean President Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in met and pledged to work toward “complete denuclearization.”
It also comes as Trump credited his “position of strength” for being able to get North Korea to negotiate. This happened during Friday’s annual gathering of the National Rifle Association.
Trump is expected to meet with Kim Jong-un later this month or early June. He is also expected to meet with the South Korean President as he is scheduled to visit the White House on the 22nd.
The meeting between the two Korean presidents and their agreement could end decades of fighting. Many Republicans believe Trump deserves a Nobel Peace Prize.
