On Saturday, during an immigration rally in Los Angeles, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) publically addressed the recent death threats she has been receiving. She told those who want to harm her that they better “shoot straight.”

Maxine stated, “I know that there are those who are talking about censuring me, talking about kicking me out of Congress, talking about shooting me, talking about hanging me.”

She continued, “All I have to say is this, if you shoot me you better shoot straight, there’s nothing like a wounded animal.”

This talk by Waters comes as she was forced to cancel events in Alabama and Texas this weekend due to death threats.

According to the congresswoman, the death threats started since she called for protesters to confront Trump officials for their immigration policies.

Trump later inaccurately claimed that Waters was calling on protesters to harm his supporters.

He tweeted:

Waters snapped back at Trump saying, “I have nothing to do with the way people decide to protest. Protest is the democratic way as long as it is peaceful.”

She added, “I believe in peaceful protest. It is guaranteed to you in a democracy.”
