According to two sources, John Kelly, newly appointed chief of staff, called Comey after he was fired in May because he was so angry about how Trump handled Comey’s firing.
Kelly was so upset that he was considering to resign from his former position at the Department of Homeland Security.
“John was angry and hurt by what he saw and the way (Comey) was treated,” one of the sources revealed.
Comey reportedly took Kelly’s call on his way back from Los Angeles where he told Kelly not to resign. Comey learned about his firing through news stations as he was talking to his coworkers.
Comey was fired back in May after Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein recommended it.
The sources stated that Comey and Kelly had a professional relationship and there was a deep respect for each other but were not close friends.
Comey, the White House, and the Department of Homeland Security have not commented on the matter.
