On Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron criticized Trump in a statement for his spat over trade at the G-7 summit. He also criticized him for his refusal to endorse a joint communique with other G-7 leaders.

The statement released by Macron’s office read, “International co-operation cannot be dictated by fits of anger and throwaway remarks.”

The statement did not specifically name Trump but it referred to his actions. As it continued to say that “anyone who would depart from them, once their back was turned, shows their incoherence and inconsistency.”

It went on saying, “International cooperation cannot depend on fits of anger or little words. Let’s be serious and worthy of our people. We make commitments and keep them.”

In the statement, it added France and Europe will “maintain their support” for the communique. The communique states the G-7 leaders will  “acknowledge free, fair, and mutually beneficial trade is a key engine for engine for growth and jobs.”

Macron’s statement comes as Trump stated on Twitter that he will not sign the G-7 statement because of Canadian Prime Minister’s Justin Trudeau’s “false statements.” It also comes as Trump called Trudeau “meek and mild.”
