Feeley is a former Marine Corps helicopter pilot and career diplomat who resigned from his post earlier this year. When he resigned, he stated he could no longer serve under the Trump administration.
His resignation was announced in a Washington Post op-ed titled “Why I Could No Longer Serve This President.”
In the op-ed, he explained that Trump had “warped and betrayed” what he believes to be “the traditional core values of the United States.” He added, “America is undoubtedly less welcome in the world today.”
In his resignation letter, he wrote, “As a junior foreign service officer, I signed an oath to serve faithfully the president and his administration in an apolitical fashion, even when I might not agree with certain policies. My instructors made clear that if I believed I could not do that, I would be honor bound to resign. That time has come.”
