In the past, Trump has made comments about McCain such as:  “He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.”

Last year, Trump also blasted McCain for his “no” vote on repealing part of Obamacare. Trump mocked McCain for not holding his arm up fully while giving the thumbs down. McCain couldn’t do so because of injuries while being a prisoner of war.

The New York Times reports that the funeral will take place at the Washington National Cathedral.

In a recent interview with NPR, McCain has told listeners that he doesn’t “know how much longer I’ll be here.” He has been spending a lot of time with close family by his side.
