As Roy Moore is facing new accusations of sexual contact with teenage girls, Sandy Rios, a religious conservative radio host and American Family Association official, defended Moore.

On Monday, on her radio show, Rios, who is a loyal supporter of Moore, tried to downplay Moore’s accusations asking her male listeners if they were shameful of past sexual acts. On Tuesday, she tried to take a different approach to the accusations. She tried to claim that the accusations and the calls for Moore to step aside were attacks on all Christians.

Rios stated, “His opinions on marriage, the sanctity of marriage, and the rule of law and the Ten Commandments are so unpalatable to the Washington establishment. They’re revulsed by that.”

She continued, “This is a larger issue. The focus is on Justice Moore, but really he is a proxy for all of us that are believers in Jesus. Now I’m saying in terms of the hatred and vitriol coming his way and the delight, really, in destroying him if they can. It’s what the darkness always does to the light.”

She then tried to use the Bible to defend Moore.

She stated, “Remember that Jesus himself was accused, but he was completely innocent. Remember that they paid guards to come and lie about whether the stone was rolled away and the body was not there. This is not new.”

According to a new poll, Moore is 12 points behind Doug Jones, his Democratic opponent. Also, his favorability has gone done since October by 14 points.
