Over the weekend, during the protest in Charlottesville, VA, there was a man wearing an 82nd Airborne Division hat giving Ku Klux Klan salute, a salute that closely resembles the Nazi salute.

A former Obama administration official, Brandon Friedman tweeted about it saying:

This tweet went viral and got the attention of the 82nd Airborne Division. They took the opportunity to deliver a pointed message.

There were many battles and campaigns during World War II that this division took part in. They also played a crucial role in the Allied win on D-Day in 1944 at Normandy.

The man that was in the picture has not been identified yet.

It seems as though the 82nd Division is still playing a part in their fight against fascism and Nazis on American soil.

The rally ended with a 32-year-old woman, Heather Heyer, losing her life and up to 20 other people injured due to a car being driven into a crowd.
